Weymouth Heritage Centre was set up to serve visitors and the community of Weymouth, Melcombe Regis and Portland by providing by providing education and information on the borough’s ‘Historical Heritage’.
It will provide educational support to schools and raise and enhance the awareness amongst the local community and visitors to the borough of it’s Heritage, and provide encouragement, opportunities and support for pursuing their interests and enhancing their knowledge, through the provision of a ‘Heritage Centre’ website, a data base, publications, talks, audio-visual shows, guided tours, workshops, and exhibitions.
It will be pro-active in encouraging the preservation and enhancement of local Heritage, including support for historically relevant and sympathetic building and rebuilding. Where appropriate, encourage the placing of historically informative plaques.
